Major League Lacrosse (MLL) player has been name as coaches of the Glenbrook South High School Lacrosse Program. Mike Gabel of The Chicago Machine, will return to the program looking to regain the State Championship from the 2000 season. Building the Tradition Gabel, starting goalie for The Machine and a 2008, 2009 selection to the MML All-Star game, will be the head coach. Gabel, who played college lacrosse at Vermont, was one of the original players of the Chicago Machine franchise selected in the 2006 supplemental draft. He has been the starting goalie for the Chicago pro team for the past three years and has had MLL Goalie of the Week honors. During his College Career, Mike was named senior Captain and started in all 12 games, making 151 saves; His .592 save percentage ranked him 11th in the country for '05; Made a career-high 24 saves against Georgetown; Ended career as one of the greatest goalies to play at Vermont; In four years, Mike broke Vermont records for goals against in both a season and career. Gabel started and is the Director of True Lacrosse, a company that helps train youth and High School lacrosse athletes in order to prepare them for the next level. He started the company with a goal to spread lacrosse throughout the Midwest and teach people the accurate way the sport should be played. The program has had great success in a very short period of time and is considered one of the top youth/high school prep. programs in the country. Additionally, two alumnus of Glenbrook South are joining the program. Jon Novotny a graduate of the GBS class of 1997 will be back coaching along with Jack Harty class of 2003. Novotny has returned after a short stint at Schaumburg H.S. as the head varsity lacrosse coach, where he took the team to the Lacrosse Cup runner up in 2006. A graduate of Western Illinois University, he ran track, was a 4 time all conference athlete and lead the team to the Conference Championship his senior year He is now employed as the Strength & Conditioning Director, heading up the brand new state of the art facility at GBS. The Freshman Lacrosse coach will be Matt Jones, a Dean at GBS, who has been a lacrosse coach in the past.
